— FAQ's
Questions, answered
What is Momentum?
Momentum is Aotearoa’s student-led commercialisation programme. It connects early-stage founders and researchers with strategic advice, mentoring and pathways to funding, including the PreSeed Accelerator Fund.
Who can present to the Otago Committee?
Any student at the University of Otago or Otago Polytechnic with an idea, project or early-stage business. You don’t need all the answers, just something you’re working on.
Does it cost anything?
What happens when I present?
It’s a relaxed, no-pressure conversation, not a pitch. The committee asks questions to understand your idea and helps map out practical next steps, connections and honest feedback.
How often does the Otago Committee meet?
Six times a year. Reach out any time and we’ll help you get ready for the next one.
Do I need a business plan already?
No. Momentum starts with a chat to help shape your idea, not a finished plan. You don’t need all the answers going in.
What is the PreSeed Accelerator Fund?
It’s early-stage capital that helps promising student and tertiary-born ideas move from concept to market. Momentum is accredited to make formal investment decisions for this fund, so presenting to the Otago Committee is a genuine pathway to it.
How is Momentum connected to Startup Dunedin?
Momentum and Startup Dunedin both support the Otepoti startup ecosystem, working alongside each other to give Dunedin founders more ways to get funded, mentored and connected.
